You're doing it wrong,

"If these don't cut what you're attempting to cut easily, they aren't meant to cut it. I use these to cut 1/2" to 1" flexible core-line conduit and it does so with ease. A nice clean bur free slice. They are also good for making length corrections with poly string already through the line. These are far better than the plastic alternative simply by the metal frame, spring loaded handle with lock and the reverse-able blade to extend blade life. Only complaint is you have to keep an eye on the hinge screw, she tends to come loose on ya. You can't go wrong with Klein."
