Roxul Smells Like Cat Urine,
January 10, 2012
By QuinteAngler
from Belleville, ontario
"Roxul resin contains high amounts of Uric Acid. If the skids are stored in the outdoor yard and the bags are allowed to take on any moisture the product will smell very strongly of cat urine.
I have had this problem recently with the roxul Safe and Sound product in 2 bags purchased 60 days apart from home depot and also from another local retailer.
I've had to open and bring back the 2 bags to Home Depot making a huge mess in my basement and the back of my SUV and it cost me 1/2 days labour between the 2 incidents. Home Depot was good in refunding my money but it was the time and aggrevation that was the problem.
I've called Roxul and they were apoligetic but didn't really care and blamed it on Home Depot's storage of their product. They claim that they've educated the Lumber managers but some stil store the product outside. They claim that if you allow the product to dry out for 48 hours it's fine. However who wants to chance putting that stuff in your walls and celiing and having the cat urine smell in your house forever.
I won't be buying Roxul again and instead will go with the Owens Corning product next time I'm soundproofing or insulating."

"Installed this product in my utility room to dampen out the sound of my furnace, water purification system, humidifier etc. Extremely easy to cut and work with, provided excellent sound proofing to an otherwise very noisy room! Highly recommended."
