LG 10000 BTU Vertical Air Conditioner

The LV1000CE packs all of the features and performance of a traditional window air conditioner into a unit designed to fit a slider casement window that opens side to side rather than vertically. By adjusting the deflection, air is directed where it’s needed most. Program the air conditioner to turn on right before you arrive home or turn off shortly after you leave for added convenience and energy efficiency. Removable, washable filters make cleaning a breeze. Easy to read and use, the electronic controls offer more accurate temperature management with a stylish design. Control the speed at which the room is cooled by adjusting the temperature of the air. Varying fan speeds help to control and maintain room temperature, keeping the room comfortable.

Best choice for slider windows,
July 12, 2008
from Kingston, ON
" I moved into an apartment with a large kitchen/living room area and a bedroom. And slider windows. My first instinct was to get a portable AC, and wheel it between the two rooms as needed. Bad idea! The portable worked fine in the bedroom, but did nothing in the large open area, even though it said it would cool a room that size.
Returned it and got this unit instead. Put it in the kitchen window. Same BTU rating as the portable, but what a difference! This thing can make the entire apartment freezing cold in half an hour.
And this thing is QUIET. The manual stresses the importance of getting the unit level when installing. Yes, this is very important. It needs to be almost flat, with barely any tilt toward the outside (for water drainage). It's a deep unit, so the water won't drip inside. Once I got this nice and level and secure I can no longer tell when the compressor kicks in. All I hear is the sound of rushing air. I have never seen a window AC this quiet. Don't expect it to be as quiet as central air though.
With the unit not properly levelled it sounded like a tractor though! I thought it was broken.
Unlike most window units which turn the compressor on an off but leave the fan on all the time, this one has an "energy saver" mode where the fan shuts off a little bit after the compressor does. This is what the above reviewer refers to. The remote is a nice bonus too.
Highly recommended.

LG is Cool,
June 11, 2008
from Toronto
" Installed the 10000 BTU with no complications. The instructions were accurate and the unit fits tightly in our sliding window. It is very easy on the eyes, i.e, blends in nicely
The unit has a mode that turns it off once the temperature is met. It's like the hybrid car I drive.
We got the 10k unit as we are trying to cool a couple of upstairs rooms using one unit. So far the unit is quieter than our old 20 year Fedder and kicks out a lot of cold air.
The mounting hardware seems very sturdy and serious, I doubt the unit will budge. But if we want to remove it from the brace it should slide out easily once uncsrewed.
