1 Star for Ariens / 5 Stars for Home Depot,

"I bought this snow blower in the fall of 2009. The assembly was straightforward. It handled the first few snowfalls beautifully. It always started on the first pull and had no trouble throwing the snow across our double driveway to the larger part of our front lawn.
Unfortunately, after about 5 uses it became stuck in gear. With the help of a friend's pickup truck, I carted the snow blower to the Home Depot authorized repair center nearby. The technicians there quickly diagnosed the problem and ordered the required parts. That was over three weeks ago. Ariens has still not delivered the parts.
Finally, I became frustrated and went to Home Depot to see what my options were. Full credit to the excellent staff that listened to my problem and made it right by offering me a full refund. They even contacted the repair depot and arranged to have the snow blower returned to the store (saving me the trouble of doing so).
The snow blower seemed like a great purchase for the first few uses. Based on the feedback I received from the staff at Home Depot they haven't had a lot of problems with this model. Maybe I just got a lemon. Given the value price I really wasn't that put out when I had to take it in for repairs. What drove me over the edge was having to wait for parts the heart of winter. Ariens should know enough to have a ready supply of parts available especially for repair centers affiliated with a big retailer like Home Depot.
Given the excellent treatment I received at Home Depot I may purchase another snow blower there to get through the rest of the winter. One thing is for sure: It won't be an Ariens."

"Had a freak snowstorm. Snow piled high to 4 - 5 feet and packed hard. Car was stuck and had to be pulled out. Decided to buy this snowblower to clear out and try to make a path. Took a few passes and tries but it did the job and was able to get the car into the driveway. The only thing I didn't like was the bolts that were on it were hard and tight to get off and to screw on to put it together. But it also means it won't be coming off easily. Other then that, it was really easy to put together. Starting it was a piece of cake and I was worried about the pull start. Before I even had it partly pulled it was started and going great. Easy to use controls and the speeds for forward and reverse help make it easier to move. If going through something really deep, will need a few passes to make it easy and cleared but it will handle it."

Great So Far,

"Late Jan last year, I was sick of shovelling three times a snow storm and decided to get a snow thrower.
Can't believe I was shopping for a snow thrower in August and September of this year but I hear you have to get it early or you don't get the machine you want.
The smaller 22in, only has forward speeds. The larger 26in, has larger tires.
The middle one at 24in, is just right. It has several forward speeds, two reverse but smaller tires than the 26in.
Unless you have lots of help, get it delivered. Got it a few days ago, after only waiting about 10 days.
Set up was pretty easy, don't tighten the screws until it all looks right, then don't forget to tighten all the screws. I added a little oil, looked low when I got it. Added some gas, followed the start up instructions and it ran with no problems.
I am now looking forward to the first big storm to see how it handles."
